The acoustics of Loop

Loop technology

When sound waves pass through your ear canal, certain frequencies are boosted. This is due to your ear canal acting as a resonator (like a small trumpet). Most earplugs sound bad because they block your ear without compensating for this resonance. To achieve a great music experience, Loop mimics the function of your ear canal.

Loop works in 3 stages

1. Acoustic resonance

Sound waves enter Loop through the opening on the inside. They then travel through the hollow sound tube which has the same length as your ear canal, which has a quarter wavelength resonance at 2700 Hz. By using the latest 3D printing technologies we were able to make this acoustic channel round and compact.

2. Advanced filter

At the end of this sound tube we placed an acoustic filter which lowers all frequencies equally. This filter is installed in a laboratory by Dynamic Ear Company. To make sure there are no leaks, they use a UV light technology. Each Loop goes through a thorough quality control before shipping.

3. Closing the ear canal

The only sound waves that reach your eardrum pass through the opening of Loop. To seal your ear canal comfortably we’re providing 2 different eartips. Memory foam (made by Comply) uses body temperature and adjusts to the unique shape of your ear. The alternative is a soft silicon eartip with added foam for better isolation.

The result

By combining these three elements, Loop provides a 15dB equal sound reduction across all frequencies. This makes sure that music and speech remain clear, but at a lower volume. In other words, you can party harder and longer.
